Dog-Friendly Activities
While Steamboat Springs is known as Ski Town U.S.A., we’re also nicknamed Dogtown U.S.A. for our love of pets. From trails and water sports to breweries and outdoor dining, there’s so much to explore with your furry friend here in Steamboat Springs.
Dog-Friendly Lodging
Don’t let lodging stop you from bringing your pet to Steamboat Springs. In Dogtown U.S.A., plenty of hotels offer dog-friendly rooms, so you never have to leave your best friend behind.
The Rabbit Ears Motel, located in downtown Steamboat Springs, is a great option for pet owners. Situated directly on the Yampa River with access to the Yampa River Core trail, this iconic location is perfect for anyone towing a furry friend along.
The Steamboat Grand and Gravity Haus are also great options for pet owners, offering easy access to mountain biking at Steamboat Resort and dog-friendly restaurants like Slopeside Grill and Los Locos.
Outdoor Activities
With so much outdoor recreation, it’s easy to see why Steamboat Springs residents own so many dogs. Play is never out of reach in our slice of Colorado paradise.
Hiking – Find the beauty of Routt County by hitting the trails with your companion. Note that some trails require dogs to be leashed, while others do not. Always read all signage, follow regulations, pick up after your pet, and be mindful of wildlife.
Water recreation – From paddleboarding on Pearl Lake to a sunny afternoon on the bank of the Yampa River, there are plenty of water activities to discover with your pet. Similar to hiking, be aware of state park and national forest pet regulations.
Dog parks – Steamboat Springs is home to several well-maintained dog parks, allowing you and your pet to enjoy time together in wide open space. Rita Valentine Dog Park, Whistler Park, and Spring Creek Dog Park are all great options for anyone looking for playtime.

Downtown Activities
After a long day of outdoor adventure, take your pup downtown for even more fun. While strolling downtown, don’t forget to leash your dog. The City of Steamboat Springs requires all dogs to be on a 6ft lead while within city limits.
Breweries and bars – Iconic downtown spots like Mountain Tap Brewery and The Barley are great places for an afternoon pint with your pup. With plenty of outdoor seating and inviting indoor spaces, dogs are always welcome.
Restaurants with outdoor seating – There are plenty of downtown dining options with outdoor spaces that welcome dogs, like Yampa River Icehouse, Creekside Café, and E3 Chophouse.
Shopping – Don’t forget to get a souvenir at dog-friendly stores like Paws ‘n Claws, Elk River Pet and Ranch, and Ohana, or pamper your pet at Steamboat Dog Spa or Splash Hounds. Your pup will thank you!
