Whether you are looking for an adrenaline filled ride or a relaxing float with amazing scenery, Steamboat has you covered. The above average snow pack this year is getting everyone excited for an action-packed summer full of rafting fun. The rivers around Steamboat really start flowing in May and the water will be at optimal levels during most of the Summer months.  During the earlier months and during the early spring melt, the water levels will be high, making for some of the most exciting rafting of the year. So get out there and experience the thrill of rafting the mighty Yampa and the stunning Colorado rivers.

The Yampa River flows right through the heart of Steamboat and is a very popular river to raft in the summer. You can start on the run through town for a class II – III experience of splashy waves and lots of laughter.

If you want something a little more thrilling, you can raft the lower Yampa through Cross Mountain Canyon. This section is a nail biter so come prepared to paddle and hold on. The scenery is stunning though so it’s definitely worth checking out if you are an adrenaline junkie.

If you’re looking to spectate and watch others on their rafting adventures, be sure to set up behind Bud Werner Memorial Library.  From here, you can watch rafters, tubers, and kayakers float through Charlie’s Hole, which can be quite fun.  Kayakers are often seen here practicing tricks and flips, and hearing the thrilling cries of people who are rafting through Charlie’s Hole is an exciting and relaxing way to spend an afternoon for the entire family.
