Fishing around Steamboat Springs is not only a summer activity – there is also ice fishing in the winter! The Yampa Valley is home to many lakes and reservoirs that freeze in the winter. Where to Go

One of the most popular areas to set out for ice fishing is Steamboat Lake State Park. From January through March, this lake gets coated in a thick layer of ice. For those who are new to ice fishing or would rather go on a guided experience, Steamboat Lake Outpost offers a 2-hour ice fishing trip that includes transportation and equipment.

Pearl Lake State Park, also located in North Routt, is another great option for ice fishing. Here you can catch cutthroat trout and enjoy the peacefulness of this pristine area. This location is recommended for experienced ice fishers who can bring their own equipment and have the necessary licensing.

For those wanting to go south of Steamboat Springs, Stagecoach Reservoir is another terrific option. Here rainbow trout and northern pike are common, and the reservoir is traditionally frozen December through March.
