At the Steamboat Springs Chamber, our mission has always been about fostering a thriving community by supporting local businesses and leaders. Fostering a thriving community means more than just economic growth; it means nurturing the potential of every individual, including the women who are the backbone of our businesses, families and communities.

Empowering women isn’t just a goal for us — it’s a necessity. Routt County has a long history of strong female leadership, from the first majority-female City Council in Steamboat Springs in 1988 to the countless women who continue to lead our businesses, ranches, and community organizations.

This legacy isn’t just a matter of historical pride; it’s a proven strategy for thriving communities. Studies such as McKinsey and Company’s Women in the Workplace 2023 show that organizations with women in at least 30% of leadership roles are significantly more likely to outperform their peers, both financially and in fostering innovation. These businesses don’t just achieve better results — they are more adaptable, more open to change, and more committed to sustainable practices, according to an IBM Newsroom study from 2023. When we support and empower women, we’re not just continuing a tradition — we’re investing in a stronger, more resilient future for the Yampa Valley.

This commitment inspired our launch of Women on a Mission during Women’s History Month this year. This initiative was created to honor the legacy of strong women in Routt County while paving the way for future generations. By celebrating the incredible women who are making a difference in the Yampa Valley, we are building a community where every woman feels empowered to lead, succeed and create lasting change. Through this effort, we’re not just recognizing achievements; we’re inspiring others to pursue their own paths of leadership and community impact.

Our dedication to empowering women is also evident in our Thrive luncheon series. These gatherings offer more than just a chance to network, they are opportunities for women to engage in professional and personal development in a supportive environment. The Thrive luncheon series addresses unique challenges in the workplace and beyond, providing practical advice and strategies from seasoned leaders. These events have become a cornerstone of our efforts to support women in the Yampa Valley, offering ongoing opportunities for growth and connection.

But our biggest and most anticipated event is just around the corner. The Thrive Together Women’s Leadership Summit will be on Sept. 12, and I couldn’t be more excited. This summit is more than just an event; it’s a catalyst for change. It’s a place where women will come together to share their stories, learn from each other, and build connections that will help them thrive in all aspects of their lives. Most importantly, the summit strives to empower women to confidently take their place at decision-making tables where their voices can shape the future.

This year’s summit promises to be our best yet, with an incredible lineup of speakers who are leaders in their fields, ready to share their insights and inspire. Whether you’re a seasoned professional, an emerging leader, or someone looking to find your path, the Thrive Summit is the place to be. I encourage everyone to register, check out this year’s speakers, and join us for a day of inspiration, empowerment, and community.

At the Steamboat Springs Chamber, empowering women is not just something we talk about, it’s something we live and breathe every day. Together, we are continuing the legacy of strong women in Routt County and building a stronger, more inclusive Yampa Valley — one where every woman has the opportunity to lead, to succeed, and to thrive.
