Steamboat Springs Chamber and the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. are partnering to bring a new progressive workplace conference to the community called Empower Yampa Valley set for June 27.

“The Empower Yampa Valley conference is expanding beyond diversity, equity and inclusion to include a heightened list of topics that are designed to equip businesses and employees with strategies for handling today’s most pressing workplace issues,” said Annaleigh Bonds, Steamboat Springs Chamber communications manager.

The day-long conference for business owners, managers, employees and community leaders is set for 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27 at Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs.
“When, where and how many of us work has evolved, and business and employee values have shifted,” said Sarah Leonard, CEO at Steamboat Springs Chamber. “Year after year, our members rank employee retention and attraction as one of the main barriers to growth. Our job at the chamber is to respond to these challenges and find solutions for our members.”

Organizers say the aim of the Empower Yampa Valley conference is to help equip local organizations with strategies for handling pressing workplace issues such as neurodiversity, mental health, hybrid and remote work environments, unconscious bias, tough conversations and generational gap differences.

“We know that everything related to business and performance improves when diversity, equity and inclusion are prioritized,” said Katie Brown, vice president of brand and resort strategy for the resort. “Understanding and valuing all people helps us produce innovative strategies and solutions, establish a culture of trust and belonging and provide a better guest experience.”

The conference will feature a mixture of keynote speakers and interactive workshop sessions to provide insights and training that businesses and individuals can put into practice.
