This year’s Fourth of July parade theme is “Salute to Dog Town USA” in honor of the impact dogs have on the community.

Presented by the Steamboat Springs Chamber and Yampa Valley Bank, the annual parade will take place at 10 a.m. on Lincoln Avenue between Sixth and 10th streets.

Elaine Hicks, executive director of Routt County Humane Society, and Kathy Connell, president of Steamboat Digs Dogs, have been selected as grand marshals. The title is intended to recognize their leadership in animal welfare across the Yampa Valley.

Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to participate in this Independence Day tradition with a parade float. Judging will occur in front of the judge’s stage on the corner of Eighth Street and Lincoln Avenue, and performances will be judged on originality, creativity and spirit.

Float registration for the parade is now open. The price to register is $125 for community groups and nonprofits, and $275 for businesses and political groups. Registration deadline is June 27.
