    Few Realtors can boast the extensive professional experiences, knowledge and opportunity that Carolyn has been fortunate to gain throughout her 20+ year career in the Corporate world. Her extensive experience in operations, accounting, management, product development and marketing truly set the stage for her success in Real Estate. Whether Carolyn is working with Buyers or Sellers, she consistently applies her customer focus and detailed oriented approach to every transaction ensuring her commitment to excellence. Carolyn doesn't just advertise her motto "If it is important to you, it is important to me". She delivers! When you work with Carolyn you get Empathy, Trust, Integrity and Knowledge. HOW THE STAGE WAS SET In 1980, Carolyn graduated from Indiana State University with a BS in Business Administration and Minors in Accounting and Computer Science. Upon graduation, Carolyn moved to the Chicago area where she began her financial services career with the Midwest Stock Exchange. Starting out as an accounting clerk, Carolyn quickly became part of the management team and a key decision maker and project manager for the national conversion of Bearer Municipal Bonds to Registered Municipal Bonds as well as the development of a book entry trading and accounting system. In 1989, Carolyn was hired by Wachovia Corporation to manage multiple operational areas within Trust and Securities Operations. At this time, she and her family relocated to Winston-Salem, NC. In 2002, with the First Union/Wachovia merger, Carolyn took early retirement and relocated with her family to Steamboat Springs, CO. During her 13 year tenure with Wachovia, Carolyn was richly rewarded with promotions within Wachovia Trust Operations and Wachovia Securities, Inc., that afforded her the opportunity to engage in the management of exempt and non-exempt personnel, interact with all levels of management and customers internally and externally, lead teams through multiple bank and brokerage mergers and develop or enhance bank and brokerage products. Subsequent to relocating to Steamboat Springs in 2002, Carolyn accepted an opportunity to help manage a small real estate company. During her time with the company she realized how much she loved real estate and helping clients achieve their goals. She gained an enormous appreciation for the importance of choosing the right Realtor. Buying and Selling real estate is one of the most important experiences in any person's life. Many questions need to be answered, decisions made and options weighed. The transaction processes can be complicated and often confusing. The demand for excellence is paramount. Carolyn's overwhelming desires to accept these responsibilities and help clients navigate the processes stress-free lead her to transitioning to Sales full-time in 2006, at which time she joined what is now Steamboat Sotheby's International Realty. CAROLYN'S INTERESTS Carolyn does not take her life in Colorado for granted and feels blessed to have the opportunity to live in Steamboat Springs. In 2007, Carolyn and her family moved north of Steamboat to the Steamboat Lake area in Clark, CO after completing the building of their home. Carolyn is the proud mother of one son, Derek, who resides in Westminster, CO. In February of 2013, Carolyn can boast that she is now a proud member of the grandma club, with the birth of her first grandchild. Aurelia Diane Nickum was born February 1, 2013. When Carolyn is not helping her clients buy or sell property, she devotes time to her family. Carolyn believes in order to play hard you have to work hard. When she gets to play, she enjoys biking, hiking, golfing, cross-country skiing and reading. Voluntary community involvements have included the Winter Sports Club, Strings in the Mountains, Humble Ranch, Perry Mansfield and Relay For Life.
