Hahns Peak/Bears Ranger District of the Routt National Forest

  • Overview

    The USDA Forest Service mission is Caring for the Land and Serving People' The Ranger District encompasses 500,000 acres in North Central Colorado. The District is home to the internationally acclaimed Steamboat Ski Area. More than half of the Steamboat Ski Area is on the Hahns Peak/Bears Ears Ranger District, and it operates under a special use permit issued by the Forest Service. The deepest snow in Colorado falls at Buffalo Pass, about five miles north of the ski area and just south of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness. The district also encompasses both Fish Creek Falls and Rabbit Ears Pass, with its distinctive rabbit ears-shaped stone formations. '
