Advocates was incorporated in December 1983. The grassroots beginnings of the organization were initiated by the Routt County District Attorney’s office. Initial services included 24-hour crisis response by volunteers and the director. Through the years services were expanded as gaps in services presented in the community. AABA began providing 24-hour crisis response to other crime victims in 1999. A sexual assault program was initiated in 1985 and outreach services expanded in the following years to include a high school peer education program, criminal justice advocacy, and a residential shelter.
