The 9th annual Yampa Valley Crane Festival takes place over Labor Day weekend, September 3-6, in beautiful Steamboat Springs and Hayden, CO. The 2020 festival will focus not only on the Rocky Mountain Greater Sandhill Cranes that breed and stage in the Yampa Valley.
Dr. Richard Beilfuss, President and CEO of the International Crane Foundation will be the keynote speaker. Other featured speakers will include Steve Burrows, award-winning Canadian mystery writer, journalist, and past recipient of a “Nature Writer of the Year” award from BBC Wildlife, and Arvind Panjabi, avian conservation scientist for Bird Conservancy of the Rockies and coauthor of the recent study published in Science magazine on the decline of North American birds. Ted Floyd, editor of Birding magazine will lead bird walks and make a special presentation at The Nature Conservancy’s Carpenter Ranch.
Other festival activities include guided crane viewing sessions led by Paul Tebbel, nature and bird walks, live raptors presented by Nature’s Educators, documentary films, bird art, family activities, additional expert speakers and more.
