“Skiing Off to War with the 10th Mountain Division” with Flint Whitlock
A lively, fast-paced visual history of the 10th Mountain Division — America’s only division (14,000 men) that was specially trained for mountain and winter warfare, their rugged training in Colorado’s high country, their late-in-the war deployment for combat in Italy, and their contributions to the winter sports industry after the war.
The son of a 10th Mountain Division veteran, Denver-based Flint Whitlock is an award-winning military historian and author of 15 books, 11 of which deal with World War II. His first book was Soldiers on Skis: A Pictorial Memoir of the 10th Mountain Division, and will be the topic of his talk.
Flint leads battlefield tours in Europe for the Smithsonian, lectures on Viking cruises, has appeared in numerous TV documentaries, and is the editor of WWII Quarterly magazine. He is also on the board of directors of the Broomfield Veterans Museum and in September 2021 was inducted into the Colorado Authors Hall of Fame.
