    About the Program

Before the hike starts, a historical expert from the Tread of Pioneers Museum will share a brief history of the former Mad Creek Guest Ranch and pioneer families of the area.

Then Yampatika's expert Geologist will explore the glacial valley through the lens of Yampa Valley's exceptionally rich geologic past as the group hikes out to the historical sites.

At the last stop, Historic Routt County will shed light on the iconic Mad Creek Barn while the group has a chance to eat and take in the views!

Meeting Location: Mad Creek Trail Head parking lot

What to wear: Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! You'll most likely want long pants/sleeves to protect yourself from the sun, dirt, and things that might make you itchy (mosquitos etc.). Avoid cotton when you’re able to and go with a synthetic material or wool. Remember sturdy hiking shoes, good socks, a cool sun hat, and sunscreen!

What to bring in your day pack: 2 Water bottles (2 liters or more), snacks, lunch, extra layers (long sleeve shirt, fleece) and also bring your waterproof jacket!
