Family Nature Hikes

  • Overview

    Do you want to get your family outside but don't know what to do? Get your whole family excited about hiking and nature in this fun program for children and adults! We'll be going on a gentle hike investigating nature around us, hunting for excitement, and learning how to be responsible when we're outside. Kids will get to engage with nature, and parents will have the chance to both engage with and learn to guide their amazing little explorers!

    Meeting locations can vary and if not listed you will be contacted closer to the program as they are based on current conditions.

    WE WILL MEET AT a Sanctuary Trailhead, some map applications have trouble finding it, please type "810 Steamboat Blvd, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487"

    There are two ways to get to the address:

     

    1) Via downtown area; Fish Creek Falls road

    2)Via the south side of town (as if you are near the mountain base)

     Mt. Werner Road to Steamboat Blvd at the roundabout

    or if leaving Walmart/City Market Pine Grove Drive & Central Park Drive- which is by our hospital will take you up to Steamboat Blvd.

     

    • Meeting Time: Arrive at 10:15 to check-in hike at 10:30 am-11:30 am

    • ALL AGES WELCOME- this hike will be geared toward families with children who are looking for ways to engage young minds with games and ways to discover.

    • Cost: FREE

    • Trail/Difficultly: we have chosen a trail that is flat, gentle, wide, and stroller friendly. We won't get far from the parking lot, there are no bathrooms on site.

    • What to wear: Make sure everyone in the family has on good shoes, open-toed shoes are not recommended. Dress for the weather (current and future) and dress in layers! You'll most likely want long pants/sleeves to protect yourself from the sun, dirt, and things that might make you itchy (mosquitos etc.) a sun hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are a must!

    • What to bring in your day pack: Water, snacks, sunscreen, extra layers (long sleeve shirt, fleece), and also bring your waterproof jacket- weather can change fast in Colorado.
