Overview
The Colorado New Play Festival (CNPF) is a new play development organization based in Steamboat Springs that, for 28 years, has partnered with theatre companies from across the country for a supported week-long workshop of a new play in progress. Every June, CNPF gathers playwrights, actors, directors, dramaturgs, and other theatre artists in the beautiful Colorado Rockies to develop new work with the goal of production. Over 70 percent of the plays developed at the Festival have since been produced by theatre companies across the country, from regional theatres to Broadway. Learn more at cnpfsteamboat.org.
The 2026 Festival will feature first time participating theatre companies Second Stage Theater (New York, NY), Mosaic Theater Company (Washington D.C.), and LAByrinth Theater Company (New York, NY) as well as Steppenwolf Theatre Company (Chicago, IL) who returns to Steamboat Springs after developing Purpose by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins at the 2019 Festival.
