After weeks of anticipation, I got to play my first 9-hole golf game yesterday. Learning how to play golf and getting prepared has been quite the undertaking. I was able to buy used clubs a few weeks ago, have gone to an indoor driving range twice to practice my “skills”, a friend of mine in town has help with learn the rules and etiquette of the game and yesterday was my first shot at putting my new knowledge and excitement to the test. I went with a friend and we played at the Yampa Valley Golf Course in Craig, about 45 minutes from Steamboat Springs. The courses are not open in Steamboat yet because of all the snow, so we made the drive to get an early start on my first golf season.

After I got over the nerves of trying something new, the day was really fun. My girlfriend and I had a great time walking the course, meeting new people and seeing some Steamboat friends who had also made the drive to Craig. The Steamboat Golf Course opens this Friday, May 2nd with the other local courses (Haymaker, Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club or Sheraton Golf Club and Catamount) to open later in May.
