The arts community in Steamboat Springs is bubbling with interesting cultural events and arts programing this summer. We don’t discriminate when it comes to art forms that we celebrate including literary arts, performing arts, music, and visual arts throughout the entire summer.
Steamboat Art Museum’s Plein Air Event (June 11-18) Plein Air Event
Artists from near and far will convene in Steamboat Springs for a week-long event featuring live painting throughout Routt County. This non-juried event takes place at the peak of wildflower season and the finished pieces will be displayed and sold at the Steamboat Art Museum from June 17 to July 30.
42nd Annual Art in the Park (July 9-10) Art in the Park
A weekend full of creativity and approachable art from 160 artisans. The 2016 event will feature a new food court and interactive kids’ area to provide fun for the whole family. Free to the public, this event coincides with the Hot Air Balloon Rodeo making this the most colorful weekend of the summer.
National Dance Week (July 25-29) Steamboat Springs Art Council Steamboat Dance Theatre is partnering with the Depot Art Center and dance studios to offer a week of free dance and movement classes finishing with a community performance at the Depot on July 30.
All Arts Festival (August 15-21) Steamboat All Arts Festival
Awake your senses at the All Arts Festival. This year’s theme, Creative Circus, features an unbridled collection of events encompassing the rich culture of Steamboat’s visual, musical, literary and performing arts. The week-long event culminates August 20-21 with an Art Stroll on Yampa Avenue.
Young at Art Creativity Camps Steamboat Springs Art Council
Offering a full range of creative endeavors for ages 4-18 at the Depot Art Center. There is something for everyone at these kids’ camps including fly tying, dance, world music, printmaking and outdoor theater productions.
Live Western Melodrama Chief Theater
Join the fun at the historic Chief Theater every Thursday in July and August for a night of family-friendly entertainment. Live piano accompanies the show and it is all about audience participation. Kids and adults alike get to boo the villain, cheer the hero and sing along to some hysterical tunes!
Steamboat Springs Free Summer Concert Series Free Summer Concert Series
Now featuring five concerts per season and boasting nationally recognized artists in various genres including pop-rock, reggae, bluegrass, blues, and funk. The series is a gathering for all ages and has become one of the pinnacle family events of the summer.
Literary Events Off the Beaten Path
You can find Steamboat’s literary headquarters at our beloved independent bookstore, Off the Beaten Path. Poetry slam is the competitive art of performance poetry and is hosted by the bookstore every month in the summer. Also enjoy a hand-selected Local Author Showcase during All Arts Festival in August.
