Join us this weekend at the Stanko Ranch for the 7th Steamboat Stock Dog Challenge. Border collies and their handlers have traveled from all over the U.S. and Canada to compete in a field trial with sheep fresh off the range on one of the most beautiful hay meadows in the valley. Competition runs from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon along with kids activities from 11am-3pm. There will be sheep and an authentic sheep wagon on display as well as information about the sheep and wool industry. Our announcer answers your questions all day and helps you to know what is going on out on the field so you don't need any knowledge of sheep dogs at all to enjoy this event. Karrie's Kickass Katering will be providing breakfast burritos and a big barbecue lunch featuring Colorado lamb, beef and pork sandwiches. Just turn at the library and follow the yellow signs to the ranch. This event is free, but your purchases in the souvenir tent help pay the bills! Bring your own shade and chairs (or blankets) as seating is picnic style on the hill overlooking the course. Dogs are welcome but MUST be on leash and well behaved, we ask you to pick up after your dogs and NOT to leave dogs in your car as the heat is dangerous. So come on out and enjoy our last days of summer in the beautiful Yampa Valley!
