We’re expecting about 12,000 visitors to stay in Steamboat Springs-area lodging Saturday night. Chances are they’ll find plenty to do on the mountain, with snow in the forecast through Sunday. To fill the rest of the hours in the day, Routt County businesses and organizations have a lot going on through the weekend:
- See a show: Downtown and mountain music venues are well booked through the weekend, with bands dipping into styles including rhythm and blues, electronic dance, hard rock, bluegrass and Prince. - Watch some skiing on your break from skiing: The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club hosts competitions Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Watch racers compete in the Freestyle Steamboat Cup from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Howelsen Hill in downtown Steamboat Springs. The Surefoot Alpine FIS will be at the Steamboat Ski Area from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and at Howelsen Hill from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Visit www.sswsc.org for more information. On the classic and skate skiing side, the Steamboat Ski Marathon is at 9 a.m. Saturday – race distances are 1.5K, 5K, 12K, 20K and 40K. - Take a trip up North: North Routt County loves a good, family-friendly festival, and its residents will be throwing a big one Saturday to help raise funds for a new trail groomer. Anchored by a Poker Run on snowmobiles or skis, the Steamboat Lake Snow Club Snow Carnival also features winter games including a snow-shoveling contest, snowshoe race and snowman contest.
