Long before Steamboat became a world-class skiing destination, pioneers settled in the Yampa Valley to sow the seeds which became the ranching heritage that is still alive today.
With more than 100 years of rodeo tradition to go along with the cowboy heritage, it’s no surprise that the Steamboat’s staple weekend entertainment takes place in the rowdy atmosphere of the rodeo arena.
Every Friday and Saturday night June 13 through August 16, a true pro rodeo comes to life in downtown Steamboat Springs. Roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing and bull riding will have your heart pounding as the cowboys and girls compete for cash. Variety acts and entertainment for the kids round out this unique experience.
During the day, you can escape and explore just the way true cowboys and cowgirls do: from high in the saddle. The slow, rocking pace of a trail horse allows ample time to experience the sights and sounds; the chirping of birds, the rustling of the leaves.
