Despite our remote geography, we catch some amazing acts that want to get out of Denver, or cruise past us on their way from Jackson Hole to some other trendy town. A dancer, jammer, all around headbanger: Schmiggity’s it is for you, my friend. Steamboat’s newest live music venue also pulls in the most consistent music schedule, showcasing rock, funk, reggae and even country (Two-Step Tuesday) most nights of the week. The bar has a smattering of high tops up front, but that’s mostly for show. On a popular night, the bar is packed to standing room - and you better not be there unless you want to dance. On a romantic getaway weekend: Head down the staircase to the sexy and sultry Karma Wine Bar and Lounge on Lincoln Avenue. Friday nights you can often find a local dance teacher showing locals how to sway their hips through the tango, salsa or pachanga. Seeking something a bit quieter for an intimate conversation? Head there midweek to catch local soft acoustic or their Singer-Songwriter series, which brings musicians from all around Colorado, or just grab a comfy couch spot away from the bar. Check out Karma!
Love movies like Once, Amadeus, or Coal Miner’s Daughter: You’ll certainly want to check the lineup at Strings Music Festival. The pavilion was built to optimize acoustics, especially for classical music. You can find classical on most Wednesdays and Saturdays in the summer; this summer’s guests include the concertmasters of the LA Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera, and classical guitarist Jason Vieaux. Obsessed with the views and wish you could just move here, dang it: Then up to Sunset Happy Hour you go. Thunderhead Lodge hosts bands all summer weekly at the top of the gondola at the ski resort. Your $12 ticket includes the scenic gondola ride plus a $5 food or drink voucher. They host everything from salsa to reggae to the occasional open mic night, and the expansive deck that is around the lodge means you can take a break from the music and soak up the sunset and moonrise.
