Steamboat has become a hub for outdoor recreation equipment companies either producing or marketing such gear as bikes, boats, clothing, energy foods, paddleboards, sleeping bags, socks, tents and even high-performance dog harnesses. Company owners say the area is great for product testing and development, for marketing credibility of the outdoor lifestyle and as an attractive brand location that provides an aura of excitement and authenticity.

Bicycle builder Kent Eriksen said of Steamboat: “It is a natural fit for our outdoor-focused cycling business. Many of our customers are locals and visitors. Cycling is a big part of why visitors come to Steamboat; it’s a natural draw to our business.”
