Beth grew up in the Pacific Northwest and received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Portland, Oregon. After completing her Master's in Teaching, she moved to the Front Range in pursuit of a teaching job. Through her work in education she has become increasingly dedicated to leadership in the field. In 2009, she pursued a graduate certificate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Denver, which renewed her interest in leadership in both education and the community. While in the Front Range, she had always stared longingly at the peaks in the distance, and so when a career opportunity in Steamboat presented itself in 2013, she jumped on the chance. Beth currently works for the Northwest Colorado BOCES. She is an early literacy specialist and "Lead Innovation Coach/Coordinator" for a $2.9 million federal grant focused on finding innovative solutions to the challenges of providing professional development to rural teachers. She is thrilled to be in Steamboat pursuing opportunities to learn more about teaching and learning, leadership, rural Colorado, mountain biking, skiing, and being a mom.
Geoff Petis, Vice Co-chair
After bouncing around the globe, Geoff has finally found a place to call home. After high school, Geoff took all of his high school savings and graduation money, and booked a one-year plane ticket to Switzerland, where he was a ski bum in the Canton of Graubünden for a year. To the delight of his grandparents (who thought he would never come home), a ski injury forced Geoff to return to North America, where he obtained his undergraduate degree from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. His liberal arts studies brought Geoff to Denver, and later, to Boston, Massachusetts, where he earned his Juris Doctor from the New England School of Law (a portion of those years were spent studying in Scotland and England). After returning to Denver in 2009, Geoff met his wife, Lisel, who is a Steamboat native. Geoff and Lisel took a break from the practice of law in early 2014, moving to Costa Rica and then Nicaragua. When a job opportunity in Northwest Colorado presented itself for Lisel, they seized the opportunity to return to this great town. Since moving to Steamboat, Geoff has been actively involved in various volunteer organizations, including YPN. In his spare time, Geoff likes to work at his law office, Petis Law, LLC. He can often be seen around town wearing his bow tie.
