What We Do
There are two arms to a chamber resort association. There is the traditional chamber of commerce side which is responsible for the membership piece of our mission, and also the resort association side which supports the marketing initiatives.

Acting on behalf of the City of Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association, Inc., the Steamboat Springs Chamber Marketing Committee strives to improve the quality of life for the entire community by fostering a healthy local economy and creating year-around employment for its residents through responsible promotion of tourism during non-ski season months.

Established as the Commercial Club of Steamboat Springs in 1907, the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association continues to provide support for local businesses and economic development for the City of Steamboat Springs as well as surrounding communities in the Yampa Valley.
The Commercial Club of Steamboat Springs was renamed the "Chamber of Commerce of Steamboat Springs" in February, 1941 which is also when the organization began selling memberships in the stead of soliciting funds.
In the first few decades Steamboat Springs' economy was largely based upon agriculture and mining. However tourism, due mostly to the sport of skiing quickly became the staple industry. Colorado's oldest ski area in continuous use, Howelsen Hill, opened in 1915 and is still owned and operated by the City of Steamboat Springs. In 1964 came the Steamboat Ski Area, then named the Storm Mountain Ski Area, later named the Mt. Werner Ski Area.
Dubbed Ski Town, USA® Steamboat Springs became a training ground for Olympians as well as a World Class resort destination for skiers in the winter time. The Chamber recognized that with substantial infrastructure in place, along with a pleasing climate Steamboat Springs could become a desirable summer destination and compliment the winter season.
In 1973, the Chamber of Commerce merged with a central reservations system under the name of the Steamboat Resort Association, becoming the Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association. Then in 1984 the Chamber embarked upon an effort to establish a significant plan for marketing Steamboat Springs in the summer with a dedicated funding mechanism contributed by Steamboat Springs merchants via a rescinded vendors collection fee.
